The Story: The Lion King

This is my outline of The Lion King plot. The concept, characters, ex. are Copyright Disney. The summary writing is Copyright Roary Ariel Madden (me!). Please do not use without written premission.

Somewhere in the African Savanah, dawn has arrived. Animals across the land turn their heads to the sun, and begin to walk towards it. What are they all headed for?

It's the presentation of the newborn cub Simba, future king of the serengeti. Every animal in the kingdom has come to honor their prince.

The presentation is at Pride Rock, the home of all royal lions. It is a big, tall rock formation that looks over all of the kingdom. And standing on the edge of it, looking over all the animals below, is King Mufasa, proud father of Simba.

A baboon begins to walk through the animals. They part to make a path for him and bow. He is Rafiki, wisest of all creatures. He is the official presenter of Simba.

He climbs to the top of Pride Rock, and is embraced by his long time friend Mufasa. Mufasa and Rafiki draw back to the cave at the other end of Pride Rock. Their is Sarobi, Queen of the kingdom and mother of Simba. She lays there, smiling, with baby Simba cradeled in her paws. Rafiki breaks a hard shelled fruit and spreads the sweet inside on Simba's forhead. He sprinkles sand on to the mark, and Simba sneezes. Saobi and Mufasa smile at this and rub faces. Rafiki picks up Simba and heads back to the highest point of Pride Rock, where the animals await the new prince.

Rafiki lifts Simba into the air for all the animals to see. They begin making celebration noise, and bow to Simba. A light in the sky shines down on Simba through the parted clouds. End Scene 1.

The next scene begins at the small cave at the back of the base of Pride Rock. A mouse is running and sniffing about. He has the misfortune to get grabbed by the clawed paw of Scar, Mufasa's younger, plotting brother. He asks the mouse, "Life's not fair, isn't it? See I, well I will never be king, and you, well you will never see the light of day, and you..." He opens his mouth wide and begins to lower the mouse into his jaws, when he is interupted by Zazu, Mufasa's hornbill bird advisor. He greets Scar angerily with, "Didn't your mother tell you not to play with your food?" Scar puts the mouse down and covers it with his paw.

"Oh Zazu, what do you want?" Scar is not pleased with this visitor.

Zazu explains how "King Mufasa is on his way, and you better have a good excuse for missing the ceremony today." Scar starts to stalk Zazu, and Zazu, frightened, tries to fly away. Scar catches Zazu in his mouth, and that's when Mufasa makes his appearence. He orders Scar to release Zazu, and Scar, obviously annoyed, spits a saliva covered Zazu onto the cave floor. Zazu is grossed out by his state.

Mufasa asks Scar firmly, "Sarobi and I didn't see you at the presentation of Simba."

Scar acts dumb, and says, "That was today. I feel awful." And he takes his claws and drags them sickingly down the wall of the cave.

"Well, as the kings brother, you should have been first in line." Zazu comments, hiding behind Mufasa's front paw. Scar lowers his head to Zazu, saying "I was first in line, until the little hairball was born."

Mufasa lowers his head as well. "That hairball is my son." Both lions rise their heads. "And your future king."

Scar sarcastically says, "Oh, I shall practice my curtsee." And he turns his back on Mufasa and walks away.

Mufasa calls after him, "Don't turn your back on me, Scar."

Scar disagrees, "Oh no Mufasa, perhaps you shouldn't turn your back on me."

Mufasa is filled with rage. He catches up to Scar and faces him, asking with anger, "Is that a challenge?"

"Oh no, Mufasa, I wouldn't dream of challenging you. As far as brain goes, I never got the lions share when it came to brute strength...I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the dream pool." He then leaves Zazu and Mufasa, venturing to the grasslands.

Mufasa watches him leave. He asks Zazu, who is now perched on his shoulder, "What shall I do with him?"

Zazu replies, "He'd make a very handsome throw rug."

Mufasa laughs.

"And every morning, you could take him out and beat him."

Mufasa laughs and the scene fades.

End Scene 2.

Nightime is shown in the Pride Lands. A thunderstorm has washed over the land, sending pounding rain to the ground. A big tree can be seen. It is Rafiki's home.

Rafiki is shown painting a rough drawing of Simba onto the tree trunk. When he finishes, he says happily, "Simba."

End Scene 3

The story fades to young Simba, a talkative and energetic prince. He stands on the edge of Pride Rock just as the sun rises. He smiles and runs back to the cave of Pride Rock, where everyone sleeps. He pounces over lionesses, all groaning when he accidentally steps on them, and reaches his sleeping mother and his father.

Simba asks, "Dad...Dad! Are you awake?"

Sarobi sleepily says to Mufasa, "Your son...he's awake."

Mufasa answers just as sleepily, "Before sunrise he's your son."

Simba tries again to get his father to get up, with no prevail. So he gets a running start and headbutts Mufasa right in the face.

Simba says, "You promised!"

Mufasa lazily gets up and yawns. Sarobi gets up, too. She watches proudly as Mufasa and Simba climb to the peak of Pride Rock, where Simba has never ventured before.

Mufasa tells Simba, "Everything the light touches is our kingdom."

He goes on to tell the amazed Simba about how he will someday rule over the land someday.

Simba notices a dark place far on the outskirts of the land they rule. He asks his father what it is.

Mufasa explains to Simba that that is not their kingdom, and that Simba must never go there. He then leads Simba to the grasslands for more education on the responsibility of being king.

Mufasa tells Simba that everything in the Circle of Life is connected, "from the crawling ant, to the leaping antelope."

Simba asks, "But dad, don't we eat the antelope?"

Mufasa replies, "Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become the grass. And the animals eat the grass. And so, we are all connected in the Great Circle of Life."

At this point, Zazu, a hornbill bird and Mufasa's trusted advisor shows up. He perches on a rock and shares hellos with the duo.

He begins to talk about all the lastest savanah news, but Mufasa loses interest easily. He watches his son try and catch a bug. Mufasa asks Zazu to turn around. Zazu does so and then asks why. Mufasa answers, "Pouncing lesson." Zazu faces him and exclaims, "Pouncing lesson! Oh sire, but you can't!" Mufasa only smiles ignoringly and gestures for Zazu to turn around again. Zazu does so, with a scared look upon his face.

Mufasa returns his attention to Simba. He tells him to stick low to the grown, and wait one more second...

POUNCE! Simba gets Zazu right on the target and pins him to the ground. Mufasa laughs and Simba runs back to him. Mufasa starts telling Simba what to do to improve his pouncing, when Zazu sees a surfaced gopher. He tells Zazu that there are hyenas in the Pride Lands. Zazu reports this to Mufasa and Mufasa takes off to stop the hyenas, telling Zazu to take Simba home. Simba wants to go, but Mufasa tells him he can't. Mufasa jets away, while Simba complains to Zazu how much he hates how he dosn't get to go anywhere.

End Scene 4

It's a new and beautiful day in the Pride Lands, and Simba decides to go and visit his uncle, Scar, at Scar's cave at the back of Pride Rock. He greets Scar excitedly, while Scar shows sarcasm (Simba dosn't notice). They talk about how Mufasa showed Simba the whole kingdom. Scar mentions casually that he bet Mufasa told Simba never to go near the dark shadowy place. Simba says yeah. Scar says "Only the bravest lions go there." Scar explains that Mufasa is right, "An elephant graveyard is no place a young prince-opps!" Scar acts dumb, like he didn't mean to tell Simba that there is an elephant graveyard (Simba falls for it.) Simba is amazed at the idenity of the shadowy place. He thinks it's awesome. Scar makes Simba promise not to tell anyone that Scar told Simba about the dark shadowy place. Simba agrees and leaves. Scene fades with a grinning Scar.

End Scene 5

The scene shows the continuation of the sunny day at Pride Rock. Simba bounds down the formation, past all the sun bathing lionesses, to where his mother, Sarobi is talking to her best friend, Sarafina. Sarafina is the mother of Simba's best friend, Nala. Nala is getting a bath.

Simba tells Nala that they have to go to some cool new place. Nala angerily hints that she's in the middle of a bath. Sarobi replies, "And it's time for yours." She grabs Simba in the mouth and begins cleaning him. Simba breaks free and tells her that he's messing up his mane. Simba asks Nala if they can go now. Sarobi wants to know where this cool place is. Simba says, "Uh...near the watering hole."

Nala says objectively, "The watering hole! What's so great about the watering hole?"

Simba replies through clenched teeth, "I'll show you when we get there."

"Oh," says Nala. She asks Sarafina if they can go. Sarafina asks Sarobi what she thinks. Sarobi says, "It's all right with me."

The cubs celebrate by beginning to take off jumping for joy, when Sarobi calls after them: "As long as Zazu goes with you."

Nala and Simba are stunned by this. Simba whines, "Oh no, not Zazu..."

End Scene 6

So Simba and Nala are now walking along a grassy path, with Zazu mumbling ahead in the air. Nala asks Simba where they're really going, and when she hears it's an elephant grave yard, she exclaimes WOW! and then they start to plot how to get rid of "dodo" i.e. Zazu.
Zazu flies to them shortly after they begin to scheme and tells them how they're "blossoming seeds of romance" and that they are betrothed. Simba wonders what betrothed means. Zazu tells them, "Someday you two are going to be married." The two cubs are grossed out by this concept, saying they can't marry their best friend. Zazu says they have to. Simba says, "When I'm king, that'll be the first thing to go."
"Not so long as I'm around," Zazu spits.
"Well in that case, you're fired."
"Nice try, but only the king can do that."
"Well he's future king," Nala steps in.
"Yeah. So you have to do what I tell you." Simba says smugly.
Zazu begins to object, but Simba breaks out into song about how he "Just Can't Wait to be King."
Zazu objects throughout the song. The backup singers and dancers are animals from all across the jungle. The end concludes with a tower of animals, with Nala and Simba at the top, collapsing. Nala and Simba jet off, and Zazu is sat on by a rhino.
